אחד הפיתוחים הקיימים לאמצעי נחיתה (לגדלים בינוניים) כאשר המזל"ט משוגר ללא גלגלים, הוא בעזרת מצנח, עם עדיפות למצנח רחיפה נהוג. במהלך הצניחה, כאשר המזל"ט בצורה אנכית (הגחון כלפי מטה), נפתחות כריות האוויר המחוברות לבטן המזל"ט וסופגות את המכה בזמן המפגש עם הקרקע.
אך עדיין אין בכך פתרון לבעיית ההגנה על המטע"ד, שכן הוא בולט מגוף המזל"ט ובזמן ספיגת האנרגיה של כריות האוויר הן מתרוקנות מאוויר וכל משקל המזל"ט נשען על המטע"ד שיכול להיפגע.
לכן יש צורך לפתח מערכת שתכניס את מערכות הצילום (מטע"ד) לתוך גוף המל"ט.
חשוב להדגיש שמחירו של מתע"ד ממוצע, עשוי להגיע למחירו של כל המל"ט ואף למעלה מזה.

Abstract

One of the common techniques for landing medium size UAV without wheels still uses a parachute (preferably of a guided gliding type) with the aircraft in horizontal position. As the UAV descends to the ground air cushions are blown up from the aircraft underbelly to absorb the landing impact.
Though the cushions generally protect the UAV from the landing impact there is still a need to protect the payload as it protrudes from the aircraft body. On impact with the ground the cushions lose the air in them and the UAV, with its whole weight, is leaning on the sensitive payload structure. Thus there is a need to develop a mechanism that will fold the payload into the body of the UAV.
